Stone Town Forodhani Gardens

Forodhani Gardens – The Place That Comes Alive at Sunset, Stone Town, Zanzibar

Stone Town, in Zanzibar, Tanzania, is the historic and oldest part of the city, while the newer area, known as Ng’ambo (“the other side” in Swahili), represents the modern contrast.

Every evening, locals and tourists from around the world gather at Forodhani Gardens to visit the famous street food market and watch residents dive into the sea. During the day, the gardens are peaceful, ideal for relaxed and serene strolls.

At sunset, the area comes alive: young people dive into the water, visitors look for the best spots to enjoy the spectacle, and the square fills with chefs, tables of local dishes, gas lamps, and the aroma of open-air cooking.

The Forodhani night market offers a fusion of cultures and cuisines: pizzas, kebabs, octopus skewers, chicken, squid, shrimp, fried banana bread, pita bread, samosas, and freshly made sugarcane juice, making it an unmissable experience for anyone visiting Zanzibar.
