Heavy Rains Cause Severe Flooding in the Kathmandu Valley
Kathmandu, August 8 – A heavy downpour swept through the Kathmandu Valley, causing widespread flooding in rivers and streams on Tuesday. The persistent rains, which began on Monday, led to flooded areas across several regions, particularly affecting Samakhusi, Buspark Bishnumati, and surrounding localities.
Water levels in major rivers, including the Bishnumati, Bagmati, and Dhobikhola, rose significantly due to the continuous heavy rainfall. Overnight precipitation caused rivers and streams to overflow, resulting in severe urban and rural flooding. Local shop owners were seen actively draining water from their businesses, which had been inundated by the intense overnight rain.
This event highlights the vulnerability of the Kathmandu Valley to extreme weather and emphasizes the importance of flood prevention and preparedness measures in urban and riverside areas.
