SCHOOL PROJECT | EDUCATION IN ZANZIBAR

In Zanzibar, around 140,000 children between the ages of 4 and 15 remain out of school, facing significant barriers to accessing education. The CR HOPE Foundation, a non-profit organization founded in 2017, aims to provide quality education to children and young people in Zanzibar, contributing to the region’s social and community development.

In January 2020, Renos Fountoulakis (founder of CR HOPE) and local philanthropist Cosiano Ismail Mbise opened the “Seeds of Light” school, initially welcoming the first pre-school students. Today, the school has expanded to include first-grade primary students and currently supports the education of 53 children, offering a safe environment that promotes academic and personal growth.

The CR HOPE Foundation promotes access to education by developing essential literacy and numeracy skills, encouraging an interest in sports, community development and leadership. The foundation also fosters lifelong learning, preparing children for a more stable and promising future.

CR HOPE’s values — teamwork, responsibility, sharing and solidarity — guide all their projects. The “Seeds of Light” school represents far more than traditional education: it provides group meals, a safe social space, physical activity, academic support and emotional wellbeing. These elements create a complete, meaningful and transformative educational experience.This school project in Zanzibar highlights how education can change lives, reinforcing the importance of humanitarian initiatives that believe in the power of knowledge to build a better world.
